Silva Sausage Processing Plant - Case Study

Challenge


  • Customer needed to supply energy efficient refrigeration to 27,000 square feet of refrigerated warehouse and walk-in boxes for sausage processing plant and frozen food storage.
  • Need to minimize water and energy waste from frequent need for plant wash downs.
  • Needed to minimize system and component failures due to scale of production needed to maintain.
  • 24/7 monitoring, quick emergency response time and troubleshooting required.

Solution


  • 204 horse power, variable speed FortaCool® refrigeration system installed to supply all refrigeration to entire plant.
  • Hot Water Reclaim tank installed for environmentally friendly and water savings from plant wash downs
  • Compressors sized for multiple suction groups (Low-temp, medium temp, and high temp.) all in one easy to access location.
  • Computer programmed CPC controller allows for easy troubleshooting and system condition checks with easy to read alarm codes and descriptions.
  • UltraSite off site monitoring capability integrated into system and put on 24/7 system monitoring by Advanced, Inc.

Challenge


  • Customer was building brand new, 10,000 square foot grocery store
  • Needed an energy efficient refrigeration system that could be custom designed and built for unique specifications
  • Wanted a single refrigeration system to run multiple suction groups
  • Floor space constraints required rack to be custom designed to fit in small area while still being easily accessible.

Solution


  • Advanced Systems, Inc. custom designed a FortaCool® variable speed compressor rack to customer's needs and specifications with front mounted VFD drives and side mounted CPC controller.
  • Compressors sized for multiple suction groups (Low-temp & medium temp) all in one easy to access location.

  • Refrigeration contractor, RSI - Refrigeration Solutions, Inc. installed the 5 compressor, 72 horsepower, FortaCool® variable speed compressor rack in the limited space back-room.

Results


  • Single location compressor rack delivers all power and control to entire store.
  • Variable speed drives control compressors to ramp up and down as needed to meet the required refrigeration load, eliminating power spikes and peak demand charges.

Challenge


  • Customer's existing refrigeration system was using too much energy and creating excessive electricity bills.
  • Existing system was having trouble handling current processes with a high failure rate and large service & maintenance costs.
  • Needed new refrigeration system that could handle current 32,100 square feet of food processing and frozen storage space and also have room for powering upcoming facility expansions.
  • Wanted new system to be more energy efficient and require less service and maintenance and reduced component failures.
  • Large product loss in the event of a failure required 24/7 monitoring and quick response time and troubleshooting.

Solution


  • RSI - Refrigeration Solutions, Inc. removed existing 300 horsepower open-drive refrigeration system, installed new, variable speed, FortaCool® system in it's place.
  • Re-piped entire system with sensor & solenoid at all evaporators for increased efficiency.
  • Compressors sized for multiple suction groups (Low-temp, medium temp, and high temp.) all in one easy to access location.
  • Computer programmed CPC controller allows for easy troubleshooting and system condition checks with easy to read alarm codes and descriptions.
